More than seven million people worldwide are burned each year; impoverished women and children in developing countries are the most affected.
"More women are severely burned each year than are diagnosed with HIV and tuberculosis combined," said Susan W. Hayes, president & CEO of ReSurge. "Burns are a neglected global health crisis that can easily be prevented and treated through surgery that corrects disabling injuries and saves countless lives. Solutions exist, and we want to bring those solutions into action."
In Nepal and many countries around the world, International Medical Corps and ReSurge will
- Create burn prevention programs
- Increase access to medical care for burn survivors and
- Continue to build local surgical capacity and training programs for burn treatment.
ReSurge and the International Medical Corps are deeply grateful to Ronald McDonald House Charities® for providing seed funding for the Global Burn Project.
