Donald R. Laub Legacy Society
In 1965, 13-year-old Antonio arrived at Stanford University Medical Center from his home in Mexico, where his cleft lip and palate had made him a social pariah. He had no education and no chance for social advancement due to his condition, but was otherwise normal. Doctors from Stanford, including our founder Dr. Donald Laub, donated their time to help him and repaired his cleft lip and palate. After his surgery, Antonio was finally permitted to attend school in Mexico and performed very well.
His success and the meaningful - and almost instantaneous - changes in his life gave Dr. Laub the inspiration to help others by dedicating his life to healing the Antonios of the world, and to teaching others how to do the same. In 1969, Dr. Laub founded Interplast (now called ReSurge International) with the mission of transforming lives through the art of plastic and reconstructive surgery. He became the first academic to develop and lead multidisciplinary teams on humanitarian surgical trips to developing countries.
Today, ReSurge remains committed to Dr. Laub's vision of a world in which no human being suffers physically or emotionally from a repairable congenital deformity or injury.
You can help us to realize and preserve Dr. Laub's vision by joining the Donald R. Laub Legacy Society. The Society was created to honor special friends and supporters who are committed to fulfilling ReSurge's mission and Dr. Laub's vision through planned giving vehicles.
